The challenges of developing indie games

Along with the considerable challenges of conceiving, developing, producing, and testing a game, once a game is finished and polished, it has to reach its target users, and convince them to play it. Nowadays, it is almost impossible to monetize a game successfully without a considerable amount of spending in marketing and promotion to obtain users, and afterwards, to retain them.

With 1247 games relased only at Steam in September 2023, at average rate of 40 games relased per day, the chances of a game being discovered by potential users at Steam are terribly low.

IDC GAMES wil publish our games not only at Steam, where organic discoverability is almost impossible, but also at Itch.io, Epic Games, GoG, and, of course, idcgames.com, where competence will be less fierce, and will dedicate at least half of the game's budget to marketing and promotion.

In addition, IDC GAMES is not only a platform, but also a game publisher with nearly 14 years of experience. Game publishing is not only about integrating a game at a distribution platform that solves, controls the game's delivery into the user's computer and processes payments securely; is is also about running marketing campaigns, localizing the game and assets, DRM, providing content for social media, showcase the game to convice users to play, and much more.

All our expertise in game publishing will be applied to our self developed games, in the following areas:

  • Localization. Our localization team can translate the game itself, plus news, patch notes, marketing assets.

  • Customer support. Our support team will manage the game's support in all the above languages.

  • QA and testing. We will run all the pertinent tests at every stage of the game's development and release.

  • Marketing and promotion. Our marketing team will design all the images and video assests necessary to nurture advertising and social media campaigns, and set up, manage, monitor, and optimize the campaigns.

  • Live streams. Our team of game testers will create gameplays and upload then into idcgames.com, other storefronts, and popular streaming and video platforms such as Twitch and YouTube, to showcase the game.

  • Creative promotion. IDC GAMES regularly attends video gaming festivals and exhibitions, to promote our platform and games.
