Introduction
Version 1.2
IDC GAMES is a web2 indie PC game distribution platform.
What is a game distribution platform? A storefront where gamers go to discover, download and play video games.
What are indie PC games? Video Games that are played on computers and developed by independent studios that don't count with the backup of major publishing companies.
What does web2 mean? Web2 or web 2.0 refers to applications that don't support blockhain technology and features fiat currency, digital assets, and user accounts based on relational databases. In contrast, web3 or web 3.0 applications are built on blockchain technology (crypto currency and NFT assets), and crypto ledgers replace user accounts.
Good news...
Video games are the new movie blockbusters. Lets start with some facts and forecasts of cypto and non crypto game markets:
The global pc games market size Global PC Games Market size was valued in USD 29.35 billion in 2022 and projected to reach USD 32.29 Billion by the end of 2030 (source).
The global blockchain gaming market size was valued at USD 4.83 billion in 2022 and is expected reach USD 7.89 billion by 2030 (source).
Bad news...
Video games distribution is very fragmented, forcing players to use several platforms for different types of gaming.
As of today, third party traditional pc games distribution is concentrated in Steam (the distribution mogul), Epic Games Store, Good Old Games (GOG), and Itch.io; while crypto gaming distribution is much more fragmented in platforms like HyperPlay, Elixir, Isotopic, Ultra.io, Metacade, or Gatheon, to name a few.
Of all these publishers, only Epic Games Store and HyperPlay have started to offer an hybrid web2 and web3 distribution: Epic Games Store accepts products that support blockchain, NFT or cryptocurrency, and HyperPlay aggregates at their web3 game launcher an access to Epic Games and GOG's stores and games.
The future of pc gaming
We believe that the use of blockchain technology in gaming is here to stay, but, no matter how trending and popular it becomes, traditional games and platforms are not going to disappear, nor evolve into a purely blockchain based service.
Both models will coexist, and Steam will continue ruling the pc games market, but the future of gaming will follow the steps of Epic Games and HyperPlay; merging web2 and we3 gaming.
This how IDC GAMES plans to merge the best from both distribution worlds:
Developing a web2 and web3 game launcher that supports both crypto and non crypto games;
Integrating a native fungible token at a platform level, the $IDC, to reward users and serve as currency for payments;
Implementing a tokenizable reward system, that is based on Steam's loyalty programs, but offers the chance of tokenizing the rewards into non fungible tokens (NFT);
Rewarding players, developers, publishers, and influencers, and not only players, like traditional storefronts;
Developing four original indie pc games and distributing them at our platform and at third party game platforms.
